AA Crown Holding is proposing to expand the existing Wollongong Private Hospital at 15 – 21 Urunga Parade and 360 – 368 Crown Street in Wollongong.
The proposal represents an extension to the approved private hospital that was approved under the former Part 3A provisions to cater for additional demand for healthcare services. Consent is sought for a 9 x storey extension, including a new medical tenancy building connecting into the hospital, expansion of the existing 3 x level basement carpark, comprising an additional 191 inpatient units, resulting in a total of 342 units. Additional ICU and radiation oncology and operating theatres will be provided.
With a proposed gross floor area of nearly 32,000 square metres, the expansion will support development of the Wollongong Health Precinct and presents a great opportunity to improve the urban design outcome for the locality.
Wollongong Private Hospital with site subject to the extension
Located within the Wollongong Health Precinct, the project will meet the significant demand for healthcare that exists in the Wollongong and surrounding Illawarra region. The facility is designed in a way to create a high-quality hospital for staff and patients, as well as responds to the current and projected growth of the region.
The hospital is situated on the edge of Wollongong City Centre and enjoys views towards the mountains, Wollongong CBD and beyond.
Ramsay Health Care operates the existing facility and will expand its footprint once the development is approved.
