With development of Western Sydney University’s Bankstown City Centre campus, the university is planning to transition from the Milperra campus by 2023.

In planning for the future of the Milperra campus, a planning proposal has been lodged by WSU and Mirvac to rezone the site.

The campus measures 19.64 ha and is bounded by Ashford Avenue, Bullecourt Avenue, Horsley Road and the M5 Motorway.

The site is currently zoned SP2 Infrastructure (Educational Establishment) under the Bankstown LEP.

Development for a purpose other than an educational establishment is not permissible under the current controls and as such an amendment is sought to rezone majority of the site to R1 General Residential to allow 430 new homes and B1 Neighbourhood Centre to allow a small neighbourhood commercial centre.

These plans have been met with opposition by community leaders and residents who believe the site would be best served as an educational hub.

The planning proposal is on pre-exhibition at the moment.
