In a move to meet the growing need for burial spaces across Greater Sydney, a landmark cemetery development has been proposed at Wallacia.

The project, spanning three lots on Greendale Road and Park Road, will provide up to 250,000 burial plots, making it one of the largest cemetery developments in the region. This ambitious plan seeks to offer a critical solution to the burial site shortage facing Sydney’s expanding population while establishing a thoughtfully designed resting place for the community.

Covering a vast 200.91 hectares of rural land, the cemetery will be more than just a functional space. With ceremonial areas, a gatehouse, administrative buildings, a café and carefully landscaped grounds, it will be a place for reflection, commemoration and gathering. The concept DA includes detailed plans for Stage 1, which will deliver 40,000 burial plots, setting the foundation for a six-stage masterplan accommodating between 220,000 and 250,000 plots.

Site Context Map

The site, located on RU1 Primary Production zoned-land on Wallacia’s eastern periphery, was chosen for its size, proximity to Sydney, and alignment with future urban expansion areas like Bradfield City and the Aerotropolis precinct.

Sydney’s growing population and cultural diversity have created an urgent demand for additional burial and cremation facilities. Cemeteries and crematoria are essential social infrastructure that must be geographically and economically accessible, while also catering to the city’s multicultural population.

The vision for this cemetery has been years in the making. The site was previously evaluated for urban development as part of Bradfield’s expansion, but its rural character and large size makes it an ideal candidate for a cemetery. It is one of the few remaining sites capable of accommodating such extensive burial needs.
