NSW government is seeking feedback on an ambitious project to bring 500 new homes and tree-lined streets to a suburb in Sydney’s west on a site encompassing heritage-listed land.
Developer Landcom is working with the NSW planning department and have jointly unveiled a grand plan to create an affordable, diverse and sustainable community in Rooty Hill. Included in the project will be a mix of housing types to accommodate different budgets and needs, a portion of which will be set aside as affordable housing for those on low-to-moderate household incomes, including key workers like childcare staff, nurses and teachers.
Part of the vision is tree-lined streets, open spaces for relaxation and play, new neighbourhood connections to encourage walking and cycling and preservation of the nearby Angus Creek to attract wildlife.
According to the projected timeline, the phase 1 DA will be lodged with Blacktown Council mid-2024, with construction works to follow next year when lots become available for sale and new homes are constructed in 2028.
The 12 hectare site on Dunsmore Street, which is south of Rooty Hill station and west of the M7, includes a state heritage-listed parcel of land with remaining building relics dating back to the 1800s from a government stock farm that raised livestock and produced grains.
