In May 2021, the Australian and NSW government with Campbelltown Council finalised a strategic business case for the justice precinct in Campbelltown.
Owned by the NSW government and Campbelltown Council, the 5.7 ha site is opposite Campbelltown Station and fronts Mawson Park, Hurley Street and Queen Street.
At the moment, the site accommodates existing justice and civic facilities, including Campbelltown Courthouse.
Led by Western Parkland City Authority, the master plan considers inclusion of a new council chambers and additional district and local courts, as well as a family court with associated professional and social services.
Campbelltown Council says this project is critical to create new employment opportunities, particularly because a lot of local residents leave the local government area for work.
Accordingly, Council thinks a justice precinct will create a significant amount of community jobs.
Of the 500 + submissions from the community, majority of locals called for more restaurants, a new library, contemporary gardens, a museum and co-working space.
