A shared vision that will transform Blacktown City was announced a few weeks ago with the signing of a historic agreement between Blacktown Council and Walker Corporation.

Blacktown residents will get their own version of Parramatta Square with a $2 billion deal cut to redevelop tired, old looking commercial office buildings and retail strip shops in Blacktown’s town centre.

The project will stretch from south of Civic Lane towards Blacktown Workers’ Club on a block including the Council’s Bowman Hall and a stretch of car parks.

In the long-term, the project is expected to add over 4500 permanent jobs and will include space for health facilities like the Blacktown Brain and Spinal Institute, as well as a hub including for new commercial offices, retail and education facilities.

It will also $920 million of economic value to Blacktown’s book, providing a huge boost to the local economy, which already generates about $22.35 billion per annum.

With population in Blacktown expected to exceed a massive 630,000 by 2041, Blacktown City is in dire need of modern amenities and infrastructure, as well as wide open space squares and better designed access in and around the city for pedestrians, cars and buses.

This comes less than a year after completion of Parramatta Square – a $3 billion Walker Corp project which includes four new towers containing 240,000 square metres of new office and retail space, as well as 10,000 square metres of public space. Parramatta Square is so significant is has changed the foot traffic of Parramatta’s CBD.

Despite the game-changing deal between Walker Corp and Blacktown Council, Parramatta will always be the best in the west.
