No doubt you’ve driven past the M4 service centres at Eastern Creek and noticed some big changes. McDonald’s, which has been on both sides of the motorway since the 1990s, has been demolished. Oporto and Red Rooster have also been bowled over.

Owned by Ampol, Ampol and Transport for NSW have entered into a project delivery agreement to redevelop, renew and refresh both existing highway service centres. Both service centres are critical pieces of infrastructure that support the motoring public’s use of the M4 Western Motorway.

The service stations remain temporarily open while redevelopment plans include a large food court area with both indoor and outdoor dining areas, children’s play areas, truck driver amenities, separated fuel and diesel canopies and enclosed off-leash dog parks on both sides of the highway.

While not yet confirmed, there’s speculation that Hungry Jacks will form part of the new food offerings and McDonald’s will not return.

From late 2025, the sites on both sides of the highway will bring back quick service restaurant offerings together under one roof with Ampol Foodary’s fresh convenience offer to help meet the needs of commuters and local customers on both sides of the highway.

Upon completion, Eastern Creek will be one of Ampol’s biggest truck-friendly sites with nine pumps available at each of the brand new diesel canopies as well as ample parking and truck driver facilities including showers and a dedicated loungeroom. EV drivers will have new ultra-fast EV charging bays on each side of the highway. At each site, there will be first-of-a-kind AmpCharge electric vehicle charging hubs for large vehicles including trucks and cars with trailers, and bays to serve all other passenger vehicles.

Consent was given in June 1992 for twin service centres, each comprising service stations with convenience stores, car wash and 2 x fast-food stores.
