NSW Education Department’s plans to build a new multi-level primary school will solve a huge shortage of education establishments in the City of Ryde.
To be named ‘Midtown Macquarie Park’, the new primary school with capacity for up to 750 students will meet anticipated student enrolment growth arising directly from an influx of residential development in Macquarie Park.
Midtown Macquarie Park will comprise a 5 – 6 x storey built form, including state-of-the-art learning facilities. The school site is over 3300 square metres and will have a total gross floor area of over 5600 square metres. On the ground level will feature the school hall, landscaping and passive play spaces, whilst levels 1 – 4 will offer learning areas and a school library. A netted rooftop is also proposed to allow for ball sports.
Announced as one of 23 new or upgraded schools across NSW in the 2022-23 budget, the project site is located on a site identified for a school as part of the redevelopment of Ivanhoe Estate on the corner of Herring and Epping roads. The area is now known as Midtown Macquarie Park.
Ivanhoe Estate concept approval provides for over 268,000 square metres of developable area and 3300 dwellings, including a mix of social, affordable, private and seniors living dwellings. Community and retail uses are also proposed on the master planned site.

School Infrastructure NSW is delivering new and upgraded schools to meet growing enrolments to ensure every school-aged child has access to high quality education facilities. City of Ryde in particular is experiencing significant population growth and substantial public infrastructure investment is required.
School Infrastructure’s latest demographic projections highlight the equivalent student demand for up to 3 (1012 student) primary schools in the Ryde Primary School Community Group and nearly 2 secondary schools in the Ryde Secondary School Community Group by 2036.
Midtown Macquarie Park is one of a broader NSW government investment in public education infrastructure close to Macquarie Park. These include Ryde Secondary College upgrades and the establishment of the Macquarie Park Education Precinct which will feature another new primary and high school.
