Chatswood is poised for yet another transformative, sky-scraping mixed-use development. This time at 5 – 9 Gordon Avenue.
Encompassing 1,522 sqm of mixed-use land, the site houses a 3-4 storey apartment building with 15 dwellings. However, its prime location within the Chatswood CBD Planning and Urban Design Strategy 2036 makes it a prime candidate for redevelopment. The strategy envisions Chatswood as a hub of future growth, employment and sustainable living.
At the heart of the redevelopment is a striking architectural design by FJC, the studio that emerged victorious against Koichi Takada and Rothelowman in a rigorous design excellence competition.
FJC’s award winning design
The winning scheme will feature a 2-storey non-residential podium, topped by a 33-storey residential tower, creating a total of 85 units. Of these, approximately 21 units will be designated as affordable housing, addressing a critical need in the area.
The site benefits from a 90-metre height control, but the proposal has a height of 117 metres, which represents a 30% exceedance. This is permitted under the new affordable housing incentive scheme.
The project’s design not only aims to enhance the urban fabric of Chatswood but also promotes a sustainable lifestyle. With the site being within 500 metres of Chatswood Transport Interchange, occupiers are encouraged to use public transport, reducing reliance on cars.
