A new plan to transform a local northwest Sydney RSL club into a massive housing development has been unveiled.

The freshly released plans overhaul the original 249 x apartment pitch for the site. A modified DA was submitted to Hills Council by the RSL Club about 6 years ago after the local planning panel approved the original $340 million project.

The 2018 proposal involved the partial demolition of the club and construction of seniors housing, including 249 independent living units across 5 x 6-storey buildings, 17-serviced care apartments and a 19-bed aged care facility.

The new plans indicate 236 apartments with an additional 3 bed and short-stay units, as well as scrapping of the 4-storey residential aged care facility in favour of integrated seniors living. This will save the club circa $100 million in construction costs and is based on market research indicating an industry shift towards prioritising seniors long-term independence by providing home support services.

The original plan to build 1926 car spaces underground has also changed after a separate proposal for a 4-storey 885-space carpark to be built at the front of the club was presented to council in 2023. It will serve club patrons, fitness and aquatic centre customers and residents of the units. Additionally, the plans also propose repurposing the on-site Men’s Shed to include a community offering and increasing the size of the would-be common piazza.

For almost 45 years, Castle Hill RSL has been an important part of the Hills community – providing somewhere for its 50,000 members to meet, eat and enjoy social interaction. With around 20,000 members aged 55 +, the club’s goal is to accommodate more health and wellness services and create a sense of tranquillity and enhanced community connection.

Today’s over 55s are embracing the freedom, excitement and new possibilities that come with retirement. The residential lifestyle development has been designed with this in mind – ensuring future residents can take advantage of everything the Hills has to offer.

Residents will be located within 1km from existing and future transport, medical specialists, shopping, financial services, library, social and leisure activities in the town centre.
