Graphic design company Canva looks to move their flagship canvas only meters from their current location at 110 Kippax Street for a new $56 million office space development at 8 – 24 Kippax Street in Surry Hills.

With innovation and creativity at the heart of Canva’s DNA, the conceptual narrative revolves around creating a workplace that nurtures growth and culture, where the culture, in turn, shapes the environment.

The forthcoming redevelopment plans encompass an overhaul of the existing 9-level building façade, as well as an additional level that will house a new rooftop and terrace containing a bio-solar roof, consisting of solar panels. This rooftop space is envisioned to serve as a hub for Canva’s employees, collaborators and guests to congregate, connect and celebrate the unique ‘vibe’ that defines the company. In line with Canva’s commitment to being a ‘Force for Good’ and doing more with less, the proposed rooftop additions maintain the integrity of the existing building while making strategic interventions to enhance the functionality and sustainability, including the introduction of natural light.

The existing basement parking of 55 spaces will also be removed and replaced by plant areas and a studio space for fitness, meditation and yoga classes. On the corner of Sophia Street and Terry Street will be a retail space, which will be operated by not-for-profit organisations with funding from the Canva Foundation.

On completion, the new Surry Hills campus will accommodate more than 1,500 staff, bringing Canva’s global team to more than 4,000 people. Canva recently opened a number of new campuses across the globe, including in Austin, Melbourne and London.
