The NSW Government has standardised employment zones across NSW and requires all councils to update their land use planning rules to respond to the changing nature of industry and business in a way that is locally appropriate.

The next step for Canterbury-Bankstown Council is to update its local environmental plan to align with the planning department’s new employment zones. Accordingly, a council-led planning proposal has been prepared to effect these changes.

Canterbury-Bankstown LEP will reduce the eight business and industrial zones to five new employment zones:

  • E1 Local Centre
  • E3 Productivity Support
  • E4 General Industrial
  • MU1 Mixed Use
  • SP4 Enterprise

The new employment zonings will provide greater flexibility for landlords and tenants, permitting an array of uses that were previously not permitted, particularly under the IN1 and IN2 zoning.
