A $50 million Bulldogs centre of excellence has been praised by a community campaigner as a game-changer for the future rugby league community in southwest Sydney.
If brought to fruition, the project would transform the Bulldog’s homebase at Belmore Oval Sports Complex on 3B Edison Lane in Belmore.
Canterbury-Bankstown councillors unanimously agreed at last week’s council meeting to support the proposal and in principle, agreed to a new long-term lease arrangement with the Bulldogs club. Currently, the Bulldogs have a lease with Council for 3B Edison Lane and 1C Leylands Parade from 2014 – 2035.
CEO of Canterbury-Bankstown Council Matthew Stewart indicated that it’s important to support the Bulldogs while the sporting team worked on providing council with additional information about the project, including the business model of the new facility.

The sporting facility will underpin growth, produce greater productivity and economic prosperity in the district. The facility will act as a great asset to the local community by providing a multi-purposeful space where community members can come together to share and learn.
The club estimates that developing the sporting facility will potentially increase those participating in these programs by 5000 people across the local community.
Plans will be considered via the State Significant Development pathway.
