Camperdown Modern is a groundbreaking initiative design to enhance Sydney’s healthcare landscape significantly.
Set to replace existing structures on Pyrmont Bridge Road and Parramatta Road in Annandale, the ambitious proposal aims to construct an 8 x storey hospital encompassing a gross floor area of nearly 11,000 square metres.
Set on 2570 square metres of land, levels 1 – 7 are designated for hospital uses. The design accommodates the potential to host short stay surgical departments, which may include up to 16 operating theatres, 4 endoscopy units and 30 recovery bays. Additionally, there is a provision for a variety of consulting spaces aimed at delivering other health and medical related services to patients.
The rooftop will feature patient breakout and terrace space, providing outdoor landscaped area for patients to relax and recuperate. This area is intended to enhance the overall patient experience by offering a serene environment outside the typical hospital setting.

The proposal is supported by a draft planning agreement with the Inner West Council, promising substantial contributions to local infrastructure. This includes dedicating land for public use, enhancing the public domain with new footpaths, cycleways and green infrastructure, and targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating for sustainable building design.
Located within the Camperdown Health and Education Precinct, the hospital is designed to enhance the precinct’s role as a hub for medical innovation, research and health services. There is a pressing need for enhanced health infrastructure across Sydney generally and this development, once delivered, will help alleviate existing pressures on the health system.
The significant project is currently under assessment by the NSW planning department.
