Under assessment is Burwood Council’s proposal for the construction of the Burwood urban park and cultural centre at 2 – 4 Conder Street (Burwood library and carpark) and 52 – 60 Railway Parade in Burwood.

With a total site area of 3406sqm, the proposal will include a new community and cultural centre, public plaza, cafes and public domain upgrades.

The main part of the site is occupied by an at-grade bitumen car park with 56 spaces.

The surrounding development is characterised by high-rise mixed-use residential towers, mid-rise residential buildings, office buildings and retail shops.

The site also adjoins ‘Burwood Place’, which is an approved mixed-use development comprising 1041 residential units and 30,044sqm of non-residential gross floor area.

It’s intended that the development will address the needs identified in the Burwood Community Facilities and Open Space Strategy, which found that the population growth and demographic change in Burwood will increase the demand for community facilities and outdoor spaces.
