Cumberland Council has officially finalised and gazetted a new planning framework for Burnett Street neighbourhood centre in Merrylands. The purpose of the rezoning is to expand the neighbourhood centre and improve its density.

The Burnett Street shops, previously hindered by limited parking and competition from busier commercial strips like Merrylands Stocklands and Merrylands West IGA, have struggled to attract significant foot traffic.

Burnett Street’s retail offers several convenience, retail and service-based shops. Surrounding the shops are 1 and 2-storey residential dwellings in the R2 and R3 zones. North of the site is Merrylands Park, tennis courts and Merrylands Swimming Centre.

Newly Adopted Planning Framework

Council has upzoned a number of sites along Burnett Street and Merrylands Road. These are noted below.
