In the final stages of planning is a proposal led by Cumberland Council to upzone a grossly underperforming set of neighbourhood shops on Burnett Street in Merrylands.

Burnett Street’s local shops cluster offers a number of convenience, retail and serviced-based shops. Surrounding the shops are 1 and 2 x storey residential dwellings in the R2 and R3 zones. North of the site is Merrylands Park, tennis courts and Merrylands Swimming Centre.

These shops don’t perform overly well because Merrylands Road and Fowler Road are busy roads with little to no availability for parking.

With gateway approval issued by the NSW Planning Department, the purpose of the rezoning is to facilitate the expansion of a neighbourhood centre supported by transport, local amenity and existing infrastructure.
