For Sydneysiders, the snowbound routine usually involves communting on the road for 5 – 6 hours to one of NSW’s ski spots.

Jumping on a train or driving down the M4 to Penrith, where a new $300m indoor Winter Sports World has been proposed for the city, will be a lot more convenient.

Due to be developed at 2 Tench Avenue in Jamisontown, the resort will feature a 300-metre indoor ski slope, a winter wonderland play area, a competition area for now sports and ice and rock-climbing facilities.

A food and drink precinct featuring bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as a 120-room hotel have been included in the proposal.

After seeking public feedback in 2020, the proposal is being put forward as a new major attraction for the area and is part of Council’s plan to double visitors and tourism revenue in the area by 2025.

The site is subject to a 8.5m height limit but the proposal seeks to increase this to 54m and include a FSR of 1.2:1 or 1.45:1 (should the hotel component be included).

Zoned SP3 Tourist, the proposed use is permitted with consent.

Council has endorsed this proposal and it is now before DPE for consideration.
