Since Sydney Water’s last update in March 2023, it has made progress on construction of new water and wastewater infrastructure in Austral.

In particular, this includes:

  •  completing earthwork at the pumping station on Gurner Avenue,
  • completing tunnelling of the Kemps Creek and Bonds Creek carrier lead-ins,
  • installing pipe connections on Kelly Street and Fifth Avenue to service ongoing development at Austral,
  • completing the installation of the pressure main along the rear of Gurner Avenue, and
  • ongoing tunnelling of the Kemps Creek carrier, Austral carrier and the Bonds Creek carrier wastewater pipes.

The pumping station on Gurner Avenue will allow for the transfer of wastewater from the Austral community and will serve as a critical tool in the interim delivery solution, servicing 1700 lots.

Late last year, Sydney Water release a pre-occupancy interim operating procedure for temporary pump out systems. They outline the requirements for interim wastewater services prior to dwelling occupation.

The guidelines allow Sydney Water to provide early release of section 73 Compliance Certificates ahead of the delivery of wastewater services, but they only apply to residential developments serviced by the Austral-Leppington Wastewater Stage 3, Phase 1 project.

Developers now have the opportunity to bond for early section 73 Certificates if their water and sewer reticulation work is complete. If developers qualify for early release of a Section 73 Certificate under a bonding arrangement, they should contact their Water Servicing Coordinator.
