Construction of Sydney Water’s new water and wastewater infrastructure in Austral has progressed significantly.

This includes:

  • installation of three new water mains,
  • installation of one new wastewater main,
  • breakthrough of tunnel boring machine at the Kemps Creek pipeline maintenance shaft on Gurner Avenue,
  • installation of the first maintenance shaft on Austral Carrier at Fourteenth Avenue,
  • environmental surveying and field investigations for the Bonds Creek pipeline extension project, and
  • tunnelling of the Austral and Bonds Creek lead-ins.

This quarter saw the installation of a new water main from Kelly Street to Edmondson Avenue and another from Fifth Avenue to Kelly Street. Both pipelines will be critical to providing clean and reliable drinking water to the local community.

In addition, a new wastewater pressure main was installed on Gurner Avenue to transfer wastewater from the new pumping station to an existing pumping station in Austral.

Last year, Sydney Water released its pre-occupancy interim operating procedure guidelines for temporary pump out systems. These guidelines outline Sydney Water’s requirements for interim wastewater services prior to dwelling occupation.

These guidelines also allow Sydney Water to provide early release of Section 73 Compliance Certificates ahead of the delivery of wastewater services but only in relation to residential developments serviced by the Austral-Leppington Wastewater Stage 3, Phase 1 project.

Moving into the second quarter of 2023, Sydney Water will be focussing on:

  • continuing tunnelling work and maintenance shaft installation along the Austral Carrier lead-in,
  • contuning tunnelling between Kemps Creek Carrier and Bonds Creek Carrier,
  • installing maintenance shafts on Kemps Creek Carrier and Bonds Creek Carrier, and
  • commencing the final package of tunnelling work on the Kemps Creek Carrier.

Sydney Water is on track to deliver further servicing to the Austral and Leppington communities within the next 3 years.

Propertied Insider will provide a further update in early June 2023.
